The US Air Force provided critical airlift to personnel and supplies to Haiti within hours of the earthquake that decimated Porte Au Prince. That timely response saved tens of thousands of lives and eased the suffering of hundreds of thousands more. In the wake of a magnitude 7 earthquake The US Air Force immediately began to calculate airlift assets that could be diverted from other missions to assist in providing relief after what was to prove one of the worst disasters witnessed by man. Shoddy construction and crowded living conditions left an estimated 170,000 people in mass graves and hundreds of thousands more homeless with the rainy season approaching. It was clear that the need was grave and immediate. Airmen answered the call with rescue, medical, and airlift support.
