Ernest West was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions near Sataeri, Korea in October of 1952. After being overtaken during an assault on an enemy bunker Ernest West ordered his troops to withdraw and proceeded to rescue those comrades unable to get themselves out of harms way. Upon carrying one man to safety West discovered that three more men were still missing. Three times he went back into the fray until all his men had been recovered.
