Jack Jacobs was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in Kien Phong Province, South Vietnam in March of 1968. As a result of the leaking of information Jack Jacobs' unit was caught in an ambush while attempting to execute an offensive operation near Kien Phong Province. During the first 10 or 15 seconds of the ambush approximately 75 men were killed or wounded. After suffering serious head injuries from mortar fragments Jacobs still managed to regain control of panicking troops and organize a withdrawal. He then returned to rescue injured personnel and continued to fight along the way.
